what is a soul?
souls information
A soul is the very essence of what makes a living being a living being. This is both a very simple and complex subject on Paradise, but after reading this thread, it should not be too hard to understand the scheme of things.
Souls, as stated before, are the essence of a living creature. They are born every so often in the depths of Tartarus, while old ones are recycled in the life stream or awakened as champions in the afterlife. What becomes of them is usually based upon the soul's accomplishments in life, however, random anomalies frequently happen.
Though they are not stated, it is easy to remember things if you think of souls as having three different tiers. The first tier includes souls that are simply recycled into the stream of life in Tartarus - these souls didn't do anything outstanding and will be reborn again with no memory of their previous life. The second tier includes souls that manifest as champions - these souls often accomplished great things in life, or were a random anomaly. Regardless, they manifest physically in the afterlife in prime condition. Champion souls become so powerful that they have the ability to absorb other souls, which brings us to the third and final tier. This tier of souls are souls that strayed from Tartarus and the stream of life and never took form in Paradise. They are often absorbed by champions to increase their power, or though rarely so, eventually find their way back to Elysa.
As stated before, champions feed off of souls in order to become more powerful. They start with their core soul, the one that makes them what they are, and two additional lesser souls. With every death, the champion instead loses one of their souls, making them quite valuable for survival. While this effectively gives each character "three lives" to begin with, more can be gained by devouring souls of other players and NPCs.
A word of caution, however, gorging yourself on too many souls too quickly can lead to negative consequences.
