rookie's guide
Welcome, if you're reading this, you're either going over stuff you missed or you're a new member. Either way, this guide will help you get started on the site quickly - allowing you to set up a character and worry about the more complicated rules after you get rolling. That being said, this guide will be brief and will take you through the character creation process. It is best to read this guide while going through the character template.
First - let's start thinking about what kind of character you want to make. You have many options here, as the only pretense you must follow is that your character is a dead soul whom found themselves in the afterlife at one point or another. Paradise, the plane of existence the RP takes place on, is universal, so many alien races end up alongside humans. This gives you freedom to create nearly any race you so wish, as they provide no statistical benefits - though humans are the most numerous and common.
With race out of the way, you need to decide on an age (can be their current age or age at death), gender, and sexuality, all of which are self-explanatory. All characters start at Rank One.
This is where things start to get a bit complicated - but don't let the numbers scare you. Every character starts with 30 Skill Points to distribute among their four basic stats. These are POWER (POW), DEFENSE (DEF), AGILITY (AGT), and SPECIAL (SPC). If you wish to know more about these stats, check out the Paradise Instruction Manual.
It is important to know COMBAT classes start with 34 Skill Points over 30.
Advanced stats are fairly easy to figure out. HEALTH (HP) is your POW+DEF, MANA (MP) is SPC*2, DODGE RATE (DR) is equal to AGT, and CRITICAL STRIKE (CS) is your POW/4.
Next, we come to your class selection. Like race, this is up to you to create, however, you must pick a category from COMBAT, MAGIC, or TECHNIQUE. Each offers different bonuses. COMBAT classes start with additional hacksilver and skill points, magic classes learn abilities quicker, and technique classes start with two customizable perks.
In addition to naming and categorizing your class, you get to come up with a class trait. These should be a fairly small and weak passive boost to your character's skills. You get to come up with two more perks similar to this if you started as a TECHNIQUE class.
Next, you will come to the inventory section. Refer to the shops section and spend your starting hacksilver, which is a hefty 500, or 600 if you're a COMBAT class, then go back and add in your equipment values to your stats to get your final starting score. Don't worry if it isn't impressive - it will eventually grow stronger.
After this, you will fill out your personality and biography sections, both of which are under your control.
Finally, the last thing to be touched up upon in the profile are Special Abilities. These are your character's magical or special techniques, and every character, no matter the class, starts with one. Please refer to the Ability Type list and keep your damage+effect to cost ratio reasonable when filling these out.
After this, you're ready to be judged by staff! Go ahead and post in the Notification Thread.
